12 Days of Plant Medicine: On the First Day

At 1906, we embrace gifts that keep on giving. Our products feature carefully sourced and calibrated doses of THC and CBD – nature’s dynamic duo. But what really makes 1906 products stand out is the addition of extra magic from Mother Nature’s medicine bag.

In the spirit of the holiday season, we’re offering “12 Days of Plant Medicine,” so you can get to know some of the natural adaptogens and herbs that create our incredible experiences. (If you had your heart set on a partridge in a pear tree, you’ve got to listen to this.)

WE GIVE YOU...L-THEANINE

Found in Chill, Genius, Go

Chinese legend claims that mythical Emperor Shennong discovered tea when a gust of wind blew a stray leaf into a pot of boiling water. Whatever the origin story, it’s true that for almost 5,000 years the tea tree (Camellia sinensis) has been cultivated for its restorative and healing properties.

Scientists first identified the amino acid L-theanine as a key ingredient of tea in 1949, but didn’t begin to explore its remarkable nootropic properties until about 20 years ago. Since then, researchers have found that L-theanine leads to making fewer mistakes, and improves attention and reaction times; combined with caffeine, it also sharpens your focus. But that’s only half the story. Incredibly, studies also suggest that L-theanine can boost overall sleep satisfaction by helping you relax before bedtime, fall asleep more easily, and sleep more deeply.

L-theanine got a wave of publicity a couple years back after Taylor Swift told Elle Magazine that she takes it to combat stress and anxiety. Here at 1906, we’re diehard fans of L-theanine based on its unique ability to help you step it up or slow it down. So you can feel smarter, stay calmer, and sleep better. We have a feeling Shennong would be chill with that.

Check back tomorrow to learn what you’re getting on the second day...here’s a hint, it’s made for love.
