WE GIVE YOU…BACOPA

Found in Genius

Improved Memory. Sharper focus. Less baggage. Bacopa monnieri, also known as brahmi, is a perennial herb native to the rivers and wetlands of the Indian subcontinent. We know that its restorative powers have been prized by folk healers for thousands of years, as Bacopa is described in ancient Sanskit texts dating back to 5000 BCE.

In the Ayurvedic tradition, it has been used to clear the mind, strengthen memory, and ease anxiety. Which makes sense, because phytochemical analysis shows that Bacopa is positively loaded with bioactive alkaloids, including brahmine, herpestine, nicotine, saponin, monierin, hersaponin, and more (these compounds are collectively known as bacosides in honor of the plant).

Modern research indicates that Bacopa may have a remarkable role to play in strengthening memory and enhancing cognitive function, possibly by blocking inflammatory pathways in the brain. Studies in humans have shown impressive results. For example, an Australian study reported that healthy volunteers who took Bacopa showed faster visual processing, better learning, and less anxiety. Similarly, Indian medical students showed striking improvement on memory tests after taking Bacopa. Some researchers think that Bacopa may have antioxidant properties that boost the brain chemicals related to cognition, learning, and memory. Others have focused on Bacopa’s ability to reduce cortisol levels and help the brain function under stress. Either way, we love this herb in our Genius Drops for cutting through the underbrush and clarifying the mind.
